David Byrne and Jonathan Demme–the legendary, versatile, award-winning American director that passed away this week–have a long friendship. They met while collaborating on a film that turned out to be a seminal work for both Byrne’s band Talking Heads and Demme’s career: the 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense.

In a new note on his website, Byrne discussed their friendship, and the brilliance and sensitivity of Demme as a director. About their collaboration on Stop Making Sense and Demme’s “character-driven” filmmaking

Of course, artists generally appear on SNL if they have new music to promote. Haim has spent April teasing new material and has announced something new was coming.



Father John Misty has released a video for Pure Comedy’s “Total Entertainment Forever,” The video opens with George Washington himself entering a VR reality, but instead of imagining Taylor Swift, the former president decides to play the “role” of Kurt Cobain. As any Oasis or Blur fan will tell you, Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn used to be bitter enemies. Now… they’re not. They’ve even collaborated together: Gallagher appears on the upcoming Gorillaz album, Humanz, which is out this weekend . In a new interview with New York, Albarn and Gallagher spoke about the collaboration, and revealed another common ground outside of music: They both think Liam, the other Gallagher brother in Oasis, is a total doofus. After releasing their solid LP The Far Field, Future Islands are getting ready to embark on a massive world tour. The Baltimore outfit has added fall dates to their schedule, bringing the number of upcoming shows to a staggering 77. They’re currently touring Europe and will head back from across the Atlantic next month to kick off their US trek in Arizona. Future Island’s ongoing tour is scheduled to continue through November.



After premiering a few new songs at a show in Belgium over the weekend, Phoenix have officially announced a new album. It’s called Ti Amo and will come June 9. The release is Phoenix’s first since 2013’s Bankrupt!





In South America, there are ants capable of farming their own food that are known in the scientific community as Sericomyrmex, orsilky ants.”The scientists from the Smithsonian’s Ant Lab who discovered these soft and mysterious new critters have dubbed one of the species Sericomyrmex radioheadi. The hilarious moniker, according to the scientists, is meant to both honor Radiohead’s music and “acknowledge the conservation efforts of the band members, especially in raising climate-change awareness.”


Tori Amos has just announced a new album, Native Invader, her first since 2014’s Unrepentant Geraldines and her 15th full-length studio release. It is due out on September 8 via Decca Records. Amos has also announced a European fall tour in support of the album. North American tour dates for November and December are forthcoming
