So as we all know, the 40th anniversary of Saturday Night Live was this past weekend. Regardless if you watched it or not, Kanye West concluded the show with a performance featuring Sia and Vic Mensa. As much as I love Kanye, AKA Yeezy (and trust me, I love Kanye) I wasn’t a fan of this performance for a couple of reasons.
First of all, why was he on the floor laying on his back when opening with ‘Jesus Walks‘? Don’t get me wrong, it definitely caught my attention showing different angles and perspectives of him and all. And who knows, maybe that was the point of it, but was it really necessary? Especially since the camera was pretty much just zoomed in on his face the entire time.
Kanye quickly transitions into his next song, Only one, where he then begins to stand up as he sings, “As I lay me down to sleep…” If he wanted to lie down, wouldn’t it have made more sense to lay down for this song? Just saying.
Anyway, I absolutely fell in love with this song the second I heard it when it came out. I’m not sure if it’s because he’s talking about his mother, who passed away, or what, but this song really caught my attention.
However, this performance not so much. As he continues to sing, his voice just starts to get super raspy out of nowhere. All I could think about is, “OMG, just cough already!”
Then come crawling in (literally) Sia and Vic Mensa…like what? They perform their song ‘Wolves‘, which I guess makes sense that they came crawling in…right? I’m not really sure where Kanye was going with his performance. I wasn’t sure whether I hated it, or if I just thought it was weird. If you haven’t watched it, I advise you to check it out and form your own opinion about it!
